Terms of Service
Last updated: August 2, 2026
These terms cover your use of file my case. Using the service means you agree to them. We have kept them short and readable on purpose.
We are not a law firm
file my case is a self-help document preparation service. We are not a law firm, we are not your attorney, and nothing here is legal advice. Using this service does not create an attorney-client relationship, and nothing you tell us is protected by attorney-client privilege.
We prepare court documents from the answers you give us. You are representing yourself, which California courts call appearing in pro per. If your matter is complex, contested, or high-value, talk to a licensed California attorney.
What we do and do not do
We do: turn your answers into the forms and pleadings your track requires, formatted the way California courts expect, and give you step-by-step filing instructions for your county.
We do not: choose your legal strategy for you, decide whether you should sue, appear in court with you, serve your papers, file on your behalf, or promise any particular outcome.
You are responsible for what you file
Read every document before you file it. You are responsible for the accuracy of your answers, for reviewing the finished packet, for meeting every deadline in your case, and for following your court's filing and service rules.
Our documents are only as accurate as what you tell us. If a name, date, amount, or fact is wrong in your answers, it will be wrong in your packet.
Courts can reject a filing, and cases can be dismissed. We cannot prevent that, and we do not guarantee that any court will accept, hear, or rule in favor of your filing.
Deadlines
California claims have deadlines, and some are short. We show you a deadline estimate based on your answers, as a convenience only. It is an estimate, not a legal determination. Confirm your own deadline, and if a deadline is close, do not wait.
California only
The service is built for California state courts across all 58 counties. It is not built for federal court, small claims outside California, or any other state's forms.
Your account
You are responsible for keeping your sign-in credentials private and for activity on your account. Do not use the service for anything unlawful, harassing, or fraudulent, and do not submit answers you know to be false. We may suspend accounts used that way.
Payment
Packets are sold per case, priced by filing track. You pay once for a case and can download and re-download it as long as your account exists. Payments are processed by Stripe; we never see or store your full card number.
Limits on liability
The service is provided as-is, without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent California law allows, our total liability to you for any claim relating to the service is limited to what you paid us for the case at issue.
Changes and contact
We may update these terms as the product changes; the date at the top reflects the current version. Questions go to support@filemycase.app.
This page is maintained by file my case and written in plain language to explain how the service works. It is not legal advice and it is not a substitute for talking to a lawyer about your own situation.
